A Day at Alexander House Nursery

Our daily routine allows our children to have a structure to their day while also maintaining our approach to learning through play and curiosity.

09:00 - 09:15

At the start of each day, children are welcomed in and parents have the opportunity to update the nursery team on their child. We place great importance on teaching children how to become independent and confident, hence children are encouraged to put their own coat, shoes and bag away.

09:15 - 09:30

Children are called to the carpet by a familiar song, and they welcome each other into their day. Children are then presented a focus question which encourages them to exercise their brain. The teacher leading circle time explains what the children will be doing that day.

09:30 - 10:30

Key Persons plan activities for each of their children each day, that they feel will benefit their child’s development. Activities includes role-play, sensory or creative activities, mark making, math and social games and puzzles. We encourage children to share, take turns and look after their toys and their friends. A fresh healthy snack is provided during this time.

10:30 - 11:30

Children enjoy going to the local park on a daily basis. They are encouraged to learn road safety and embrace their environment. Their key person plans outdoor activities to enhance their current development and expose them to larger physical movements.

11:30 - 12:00

Alexander House Nursery Teachers are diverse and together create a team of multiple cultures, skills and languages. Children take part in Forest School, Cooking School, Sensory Play, Gardening, Languages, Drama and Movement.

12:30 - 14:45

While some children prepare to go to bed for a lovely rest, new activities will be set up to suit the children’s needs, much the same as the morning Focus Activities. Children also have Free Play – During this time the children choose their own activities and play with their classmates, sometimes having more recreational activities such as soft play, sing-song time or learn using the iPads in our ICT area. A fresh healthy snack is provided during this time.

12:00 - 12:30

Lunch is a sociable time where children and their Key Person sit together and have the opportunity to talk about the day and about what they are having for lunch. All of the meals are cooked fresh in house every single day. The children are given a variety of foods from all over the world which are both nutritious and delicious.

14:45 - 15:00

Parents & Carers come to collect their children at this time. Each parent is given verbal feedback with information about their child’s day. Key Persons have an opportunity to chat with parents about any significant achievements their child has made throughout the day. A Daily Diary will then be published on the EyLog Parent App which details how much food they ate, sleep times, nappy changes and/or toilet trips.

Children with wrap around care will take part in further focus activities and adult led sessions, they will also be offered a warm and healthy tea.
