At Alexander House Nursery, the safety and wellbeing of every child is at the heart of everything we do. We are fully committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare, creating a safe, secure and nurturing environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and all members of our team are trained to recognise concerns and take appropriate action.
We work hard to ensure that:
-
Children are always kept safe and protected from harm
-
Every child feels secure, valued and listened to
-
Staff are confident in identifying and responding to concerns
-
We act quickly and appropriately if there are any worries about a child’s wellbeing
-
We work in partnership with parents and external agencies when needed
-
We maintain a strong safeguarding culture where concerns can be raised openly, and where children’s welfare is always the priority

How We Keep Children Safe
We safeguard children by:
-
Providing a safe, secure and stimulating environment
-
Ensuring all staff receive regular safeguarding training and updates
-
Following robust safer recruitment procedures, including enhanced DBS checks
-
Maintaining clear policies and procedures that all staff understand and follow
-
Encouraging children to develop confidence, independence and awareness of how to keep themselves safe
-
Monitoring children’s attendance and well-being closely
-
Sharing information with relevant professionals when necessary to protect a child
We believe early support is key and aim to identify and respond to any concerns as soon as possible.

Working in Partnership with Parents
We believe that strong, trusting relationships with families are essential to keeping children safe. From the moment you join our nursery, we will share our safeguarding procedures with you so you feel informed and reassured. If we ever have concerns about a child, we will usually discuss these with parents, unless doing so could place the child at risk.
We approach all situations with care, sensitivity and respect, always treating families with professionalism and understanding.
Our priority, at all times, is the safety and wellbeing of the child.

Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)
Our safeguarding procedures are led by our trained Designated Safeguarding Leads, who are responsible for managing concerns and ensuring the correct actions are taken.
A trained DSL or Deputy is always available during nursery opening hours. They are responsible for:
-
Supporting staff with safeguarding concerns
-
Making referrals to external agencies when required
-
Keeping accurate and secure records
-
Ensuring safeguarding policies are up to date
-
Acting as a point of contact for parents and professionals
